So, as many of you know, I have wanted to change my LJ name for about six years. That's what happens when you pick your LJ name on a whim, don't plan for it to be where you build a significant chunk of your online identity, etc. When I picked "pervyficgirl," I only planned on publishing a couple of stories on LJ. The "seedier" stories that Fanfic.net wouldn't allow.

LOL, we all know how that turned out, don't we!

Anyway, I spend most of my fannish activity time on AO3 and tumblr these days and I was changing my AO3 name so that it would match my tumblr identity. While I was at it, I figured, "Oh, what the hell, let's fix that pesky LJ problem."

So, officially:

pervyficgirl = [livejournal.com profile] zarabithia

I do mean everywhere:

Tumblr | AO3 | Pinboard | Fanfic.net | Dreamwidth | and @gmail, if you're so inclined.

I like things to match! I like not being "pervyficgirl" because that has never not sounded ridiculous. :) If you have any links to any of my fic (or my rants ;) ) the links should still work, because LJ says they automatically forward. If you're curious, the name comes from two of my favorite childhood things: Zarabeth and Bridge to Terabithia.

As DC has proven repeatedly, sometimes you just need a good reboot. :)

Anyway, to celebrate my personal reboot! I might do most of my meta over at Tumblr these days, but let's do a quick and fun meme anyway. That is, if the rest of you haven't moved to tumblr, too. :)

Give me a character and I'll tell you a piece of my personal fanon.(If it's a character with multiple incarnations, such as comics and movies, specifiy which one you mean, please.)
zarabithia: (Jaime: adorable)
Ugh, I really need to change my LJ name, because that title is annoying.

1. I finally got around to watching Thor. That movie is, imo, pretty perfect. The women are great, the men are great, the villain is bad but not cartoonishly so. And Thor is pretty great, as he should be.

2. I've been reading a lot of Thor fanfic. Every time I do, I run across a characterization that makes me think of when Q asked Worf if he'd eaten any good books lately. A Visual Representation )

I'm not really sure where this characterization comes from. Thor may never go toe to toe with Tony, Reed or Hank in the brains department, but he's a clever guy. A passing familiarity with the comics proves that ... as does the fact that he was intelligent enough to explain how the universe works to Jane in the film.

Idk, "Thor as a big, dumb ogre" doesn't really work for me.

3. Also, tl;dr: thoughts on mythology and comics canon )

4. I've also been nostalgic for Star Trek Voyager lately. I was in junior high/high school when it was on, and I read a lot of Paris/Kim and Paris/Torres, and OT3 fic. A debate on TrekBBS made me all nostalgic for it ... and I have spent the past two days going back and forth between Thor fic and Voyager fic. And I have more thoughts under the cut )

5. In fairness, I am writing the worst fic in the world. It's Avengers fandom, and the pairing is cracky, even for me. But I am okay with that.

6. I continue to love most things about DC reboot and still prefer it to all the shitty old canon. Jaime's book is still terrible, though. Brenda cries so much that feels like she is being written by Brubaker. I keep looking for Fake!Captain Americas to pop up out of nowhere for Jaime to fight.

7. Ohio sucks. Snow sucks.

8. Pimps: [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen is currently ongoing and [livejournal.com profile] queer_fest confirmed that it is starting in March. Good things!
zarabithia: (tim sad)
Holiday season so far:

1. Finish [livejournal.com profile] yuletide seven full days ahead of time. Fuck yeah, totally excited, make a list of fics to write treats to.

2. Give self second degree burns trying to cook holiday cookies.

3. Discover it's hard to type with one hand.
zarabithia: (batwoman: kate)
A. HI, FLIST! My Yuletide fic is going to be finished by Wednesday-ish, and I am going to need a beta. I can't reveal the fandom (you can PM me if you need to know before signing on to beta) but will reveal it is m/m slash. It's PG-13 and doesn't have any real kinks or triggers.

Comment or PM me if you are up for beta duties?

B. via [livejournal.com profile] fannish5: 5 fandom-related things you are thankful for.

Cut because I am wordy )
zarabithia: (Default)
Things that are happy making:

  • My yuletide assignment is awesome. Seriously, I got a fandom I love, a recipient who loves the same things I do, and pairings that I can write. All is awesome.  :)

  • There are so MANY treats I want to write from this post. My first priority is my original recipient, of course, but after that, if I have time, I plan to go to town on that list. So many fantastic fandoms and pairings that I adore. (FYI, flist, you don't have to be a participant in Yuletide to write treats! All you need is an AO3 account.)

  • The flu that I've had for two weeks is down to just a runny nose and earache. I will be able to eat on Thanksgiving! Horray. (Southern mama cooking - nothing better. Well, except for those nasty sweet potatoes.)

  • I got an early birthday cake, made entirely of brownies. :) Tasty. Actual "Cake" will be blueberry pie, which is my favorite.

  • I remain delighted that Young Justice fandom adores Barry Allen so much. It's so refreshing from the silly hate that comics fandom gives him. Speaking of, you should totally be reading Flash, if you aren't, because it, along with Batwoman, are perfect. Flash fact.

  • Speaking of perfect, I have a new fandom! Once Upon a Time is full of strong women being wonderful. There is room for het and femslash couplings galore (you might be able to squeeze a slash couple out of it, somehow. The princes seemed pretty close, tbh.) Moreover, the women are different from each other. Will be writing fic for it, asap.

Hey, just a heads up:

I just did a massive Livejournal flist cut.

I was just running out of spoons to deal with the over 200 people I was following, so I narrowed the flist down to a more manageable size of people who I do keep in touch with and with whom I still share interests.  Additionally, when I do flock stuff, I want to have a small number of people reading it that I keep in contact with on a regular basis, and with over 200 people, it's hard to do that.

In most cases, it wasn't personal, but there are only so many hours in the day, you know?

You are welcome to stick around and continue to read if you like, because most stuff won't be flocked.

Likewise, every day is Defriending Amnesty Day around here, so if you want to jump ship, feel free, no hard feelings, etc. etc.

zarabithia: (wally west and his turtle)

A. The Meme Where I Tell You My Feelings: Name a fandom (My primary fandoms are here, if you need a refresher course.) , and I will tell you:

The first character I fell in love with.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now.
The character everyone else loves that I don't.
The character I love that everyone else hates.
The character I used to love but don't any longer.
The character I would shag anytime.
The character I'd want to be like.
The character I'd slap.
My five favorite characters.(depending on the fandom, this may not apply.)
My five least favorite characters..(depending on the fandom, this may not apply.)
My deep dark fandom secret. (I'm not sure I have any secrets. I don't tend to hold back. But I'll try to think of something.)

B. The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write AND give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc) or another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc). I will then explain the gist of the story I would write for that AU.

C. The meme from my last entry: Everyone has things they write about. Everyone has things they don't write about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me pairings/fandoms/something I don't write about, but you'd like me to write about.

Hit me up, flist. I am working hard today, I have feminine related cramps, and I need something to unwind to so that I can write porn ficlets when I settle down after I finish my freelance projects tonight.

zarabithia: (it's hard being nice)
Hi, all. First, I am avoiding tumblr and most of the flist because I haven't seen Cap yet, and I am trying to avoid major spoilers (and lol, people on tumblr do not know what spoilers mean. at all.)

So if you have something awesome you want me to see, you can drop me a link and I'll try to get around to reading it.  I also had a pretty bad car crash this week (drunken assholes who dry should be allowed to be shot by the people they hit, just for the record) though, so I may not be speedy at all things. Internet times is between resting and pain killers times.

Which is why I'm late for [livejournal.com profile] fannish5. [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 this week is relevant to my interests. (I don't care that it's not Friday anymore :P )

Five Fannish Lines in the Sand (i.e., things in fandom you are inflexible about.)

LOL. That's rather nicely bitchy. Let me adjust my Klingon Diplomacy hat and take a crack at it:

Snip for word length )
zarabithia: (ncis: and then they died)

So, I am sick. There's a certain .... interesting quality to having a broken leg and having bronchitis at the same time. And by interesting, I mean terrible.  It's certainly not the end of the world, and other people have far more pressing challenges every day... but ick.

Anyway, between bouts of exhaustion, I am lying around, drinking hot tea and soup, and watching ridiculous nonsense on TV.

But mostly, I am reading ridiculous hurt/comfort fanfics. I am mostly reading them on delicious, but delicious keeps freezing and/or otherwise behaving badly.

So, recs for nice, long, hurt comfort? It can totally be the psychological kind or the physical kind. Something where someone is feeling unloved and mistreated and then they find out that they are actually adored totally counts too. I just read an adorable Smallville!KonthinksTimonlyloveshimsohecanspyonKonforBatman and oh, man. It was awesome. I also read a Steve/Tony sex pollen with yearning and longing, and oh, man. Hit just the right spot.

Basically, I want fictional people feeling shitty and then being made to feel better. My only real requirement is that the fandoms be ones I'm familiar with. Y'all should know which fandoms tickle my fancy by now. Hit me with your best, plz? Self-pimping is absolutely okay.

zarabithia: (holidays: christmas gifts under tree)
So! I got two awesome Christmas presents in the mail today. One, [livejournal.com profile] cero_ate sent me a pound's worth of nummy candy. :) I am still making my way through, but I am enjoying the difference in candy textures and sweetness levels than my neck of the woods prefers. Also, tasty. Especially the white chocolate and peanut combos. NOM NOM.

Secondly, one of my RL friends sent me a pair of Captain America boxers for Christmas. They came with the following note: "I don't understand your comics fetish, but I understand your boxers love. Enjoy!" LOL.  They are pretty comfy, I'm not going to lie. They're bright blue, with a black waist band and bright little shields all over them.

So, despite the fact that most everyone is away, this brings me to a very important poll.

[Poll #1660106]
zarabithia: (pride)

Senate votes to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

"It is time to close this chapter in our history," Obama said in a statement after a test vote cleared the way for final action. "It is time to recognize that sacrifice, valor and integrity are no more defined by sexual orientation than they are by race or gender, religion or creed."

"This has been a long fought battle, but this failed and discriminatory law will now be history," said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign.

Predictably, John McCain is an asshole, but we all most of us knew that. :)

It's not all rainbows and joy from here on out, but it's still a pretty damn good step forward. Good show, country. :)

Thing that annoys me, part I: ear infections are the stuff of evil. Especially when antibiotics aren't actually doing anything. I would like to be able to hear again, world. Someday soon.

Thing that annoys me, part II: queer fail? Surely, you are kidding! )

Speaking of things that annoy! [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 from Friday: Five Worst Retcons:

Is it bad that I had trouble narrowing it down? )

This ... is a terribly negative post I blame the fluid in my ear. Have 5 of my favorite retcons to make up for it:

My Unpopular Opinions, Let Me Show You Them )
zarabithia: (babs)
A. One one hand, I am excited that Birds of Prey is coming back. I wish it was being written by someone other than Gail Simone, but it could be a worse writer, I suppose.  Also, I generally hate Benes' art, but I approve of that cover. The cheesecake is kept to a minimum (still there, because he isn't capable of doing art where it isn't there) but look at the power, agency and confidence in Babs and Dinah's expressions and stances. I approve of that, even if I'm not quite sure what's going on with Babs' boobs.  I look at Barbara there and am very, very glad saner heads prevailed at DC and did not force her back into the Batgirl/Batwoman dead end.

B. You know you are doing a ficathon wrong when everything you start to request you go "...Or maybe I will write that, instead." That has been my sign-up process for [livejournal.com profile] merry_marvels which you should absolutely go sign up and request awesome things for. ;)

C. You should also go give [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti a browse. I'm not sure I'll be offering fic, because of time budget factors, but several awesome people are involved. Also, CNN has an Impact Your World site with ways you can help.

D. I did some flist clean-up. Nothing personal in most cases, just trying to budget time better.

E. This meme, which I am have done before and continue to love:

1. leave me a comment if you want to do the meme
2. I will reply with 6 of your icons and then you have to post this up and describe them!

a_trill gave me these )
zarabithia: (robins: brothers)
1. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] heroines_fest is looking for people who can beta. Even if you didn't sign up for the ficathon, you can leave your contact info and sign up to be a beta. And that would be awesome.

2. I'm tired, my head hurts, and I just had two terrible hours at a family birthday party. You would know why they were terrible if I ever used this journal to bitch about my family. ;) But instead of bitching, I offer a meme to sooth my angst:

Give me a character/pairing from any of my fandoms plus a family event (birthday/wedding/funeral/barbecue/Christmas/Father's Day/Mother's Day/Graduation/etc., etc.) and I will give you either five ways that event was awesome or five ways it was like stealing forty cakes terrible.
zarabithia: (selina)
1. [livejournal.com profile] smgriffin : My prezzies came in the mail! And EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! I love my snake (and the poor rat, LOL!) and the Dinah/Barry painting is gorgeous. It is going on the wall as soon as I find the appropriate frame-age. Thank you so much!

2.  So, for a lot of reasons, I'm in the mood to read some good fic about comic book women. To that end, I started a new community: [livejournal.com profile] heroines_fest. It's a fic exchange for female comic book characters and sign ups are currently open. Go forth, join, and prompt if you are so inclined.  Also, please pimp the community around. I'll do some heavy pimping on communities and such later tonight. But the more people that see it, the better the exchange will turn out.

zarabithia: (bruce with scars)
So, it is both that time of month and I'm feeling pissy, which means I'm having one of those moods, where the best cure is to curl up with a nice bowl of chocolate ice cream and an evil, dark little fic. I have the ice cream covered, but I am in need of evil fic.

So, recs? Star Trek, Comics, Harry Potter are preferable, though I'll take other fandoms if I know them. The more dark and disturbing, the better. Character death, character torture, agony, pain, angsty dub-con and/or non-con, h/c with a large leaning of "hurt," etc.  And since it is usually a squick, I'll mention that dark fic is the one genre of Slade/Dick I really enjoy, particularly if it is Toon Verse. But any pairing/character will do. Just so long as they hurt in the story. ;) I don't mind hopeful endings, but nothing that ends "fluffy," please.

Oh, and no WIPs, please.

Yes, this is what I do when I'm in a bad mood. :) It's better than taking it out on the characters myself...
zarabithia: (Default)

Someday soon I will get back to posting DC fic! ;) In the meantime....

1.) Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me!"
2) I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3) You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.
4) You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5) When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

*snip* for length )

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

*snip* for rambling )

zarabithia: (lian with dick)
Hey, all. I am back from the hiatus, officially.  My time away boiled down to taking care of my niece-thing for my sister and I am not talented enough to multi-task that. ;) My internet time was juggled with naps, both mine and hers.  I also developed a nasty ear infection (yes, I do get them all the damn time) and juggling them together was fun times, especially since the ear infection has resulted in a temporary loss of hearing.  :(

I would just like to state that taking care of babies while having an ear infection is...extremely difficult, and has made me completely re-examine that desire to ever reproduce. Not because kidlets aren't awesome, but because I don't think I have the patience or temperament to deal with them. Maybe that will change, but probably not. Moms on my flist, I am in complete awe of your awesomeness.

I'm going to be spending the better part of this week catching up on the old flist! I was at least four days behind when I left, and am at least five days behind on top of that, now...plus all the wonderful kink memes keep distracting me. ;) If you have something that you think should require my immediate attention, you should post in the comments, otherwise, I'll pop around to your journal sometime in the next week.

The one thing I have managed to do is write some fic, most of it crackish Marvel, but some crackish DC so I will be posting that as soon as it is edited and made presentable. Sorry for the oncoming spam!

*waves to flist.*
zarabithia: (ohio fails at life!)

Dear Ohio: You are Fired. It has been snowing nonstop since two p.m. yesterday. Still snowing. Never mind the ice and sleet that occasionally joins the party. Such fail!

But on the upswing, it means I get to stay home. Today shall be spent writing drabble requests and catching up on comments.

It also means gratuitous meme time.

Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

Fandoms: DC Comics, Avengers/New Avengers, Young Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man (comic and movie), Nolan Verse Batman, Superman movies, Batman movies, He-Man/She-Ra, Supernatural, Black Jewels Trilogy, SeaQuest, Traditional Fairy Tales, Babysitters Club, Heroes, Justice League Unlimited, Star Trek: TOS, Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Toon Verse Teen Titans, Torchwood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Anne of Green Gables universe, Smallville, Young Riders, Daredevil (comic and movie), Amazing Spider-Girl, Spider-Man (comic and movie), Stargate SG-1 (not SGA), Ultimate Avengers movie, Chronicles of Narnia. I can probably take a crack at Good Omens, Stephen Colbert/Jon Stewart, and Political RPF, too.
