First, make sure you read the three awesome gifts I received in Hawkeye & Elementary fandoms. Because even if they hadn't been written for me, I would have recced them.

Anne of Green Gables

What the water sprites saw (Anne Shirley/Gilbert Blythe | Teen and Up | 1708 )
Summary: It is said that if two lovers lie together by a brook such as this, their child will be beloved of the naiads and never die of drowning.
Why you should read it: One of the disappointments to me in the book series is that Anne and Gilbert's marriage seems to lack the kind of warmth and passion I always thought it should have. This fic restores those things, and does so without ever sounding out of character.

DC Related Fandoms:

If You Keep Me Next to You (Kate Kane/Renee Montoya | Teen and Up | 3392 words )
Summary: Women in uniforms were her kryptonite.
Why you should read it: The author does a really great job characterizing Kate and Renee. I feel like far too many Kate/Renee fics put all the sympathy on Renee and make Kate out to be a Big Bad Meanie, but this does well and fair by both of them.

The Story So Far (10 Years Later) (Steph/Dick, Babs/Wendy | General Audiences | 2198 words)
Summary: The batfamily is really hard to keep track of. And ten years after Stephanie Brown becomes Batgirl it's even MORE complicated. Good thing there's still someone around to draw pictures and tell the story...
Why you should read it: Awww, I am a sucker for future!fic, and this manages to incorporate Dick/Steph and Carrie. It has a lot of clever canon references. Plus Nightwing!Steph and Batgirl!Nell.

The Thrill Can Kill (Steph/Dick | Mature | 2663 words)
Summary: Steph's used to Batman suddenly appearing in her bedroom.
Why you should read it: This was written so well that it feels like it could be taken from a page of the comics. Steph's voice is particularly well done.

Vigilante, Save Thyself (Arrow | John Diggle, Oliver Queen | Gen | G | 832 words)
Summary: Nobody expects you to come back from something like that and be Little Miss Mary Sunshine, but I don't think you came back at all.
Why you should read: When I'm reading gen, I am pretty demanding in my need for it to sound like the source material, and this really does! Ollie and Dig's interaction is spot on here, and Diggle in particular is greatly portrayed.

Wibbly Wobbly Universe (Batgirl & the Doctor #1)  (Batgirl/Doctor Who Crossover | Steph, Eleven, Dick, Bruce | Gen | 2342 words)
Summary:“You not existing is a major screw-up on the part of the universe, Stephanie Brown,” the Doctor says.
Why you should read: I am ... really hesitant in reading DCU fic these days, BUT OH MY GOD. This takes place in the DCnU, and explains Steph's absence very well. It tugged on my heart in all the right ways.

The Case of the Amazon Wishlist  (Elementary | Joan & Sherlock | Gen | 554 words)
Summary: Holmes sets out to discover what will best irritate his father; Watson helps.
why you should read it: The summary says it all. This is a fun, clever story that captures their voices well, is humorous, and shows that Joan Watson is badass.

Marvel Related Fandoms

Action Hero Figures and Ham Sandwiches (Peter Parker/Flash Thompson | General Audiences | 2509 words)
Summary:When Peter and Flash met, they almost bonded. Until the moment Flash said something stupid.
Why you should read it: This does a great job of making a friendship (and more) a likely and believable premise.

An April Girl (Kate/Cassie | General Audiences | 5813 words)
Summary: Kate takes twenty four hours away from Hawkeye & Hawkeye for reasons.
Why you should read it: Welp, this made me cry. It fits Cassie's death into current Hawkeye canon perfectly.

Being Open  (Marvel 616 | Steve Rogers/Carol Danvers | Explicit | 1349 words)
Summary: Carol only has one true love but Steve is more accepting than she thought he'd be.
Why you should read it: Steve/Carol being friends with benefits! "She felt her mouth starting to break into a smile. "It's not a series of affairs, Captain. One long affair with the wide-blue sky; we just invite in other partners occasionally." In which Steve is not stupid and Carol gets great sex because of it.

a spring fling (Chris Evans/Scarlett Johansson, casual guest appearances by everyone involved in making Captain America 2 & Thor | Mature | 5707 words)
Summary: New York City, where every weekend is marathons of Halo and the coming of the Thor baby.
Why you should read it: You should read this because it is hilarious. Also, because these people feel real and are totally the people you want to live with and have intense bad decisions with.

Your main fandom of the year?

Marvel. A whole lot of Avengers movie verse and a whole lot of Marvel 616.

Your favorite film you watched this year?

Avengers! Obviously.

Your favorite book read this year?

Do comics count? There is no comicbook question here, so I am allowing comics to count. My favorite comic of this year has been Hawkeye. Dear Matt Fraction, please never stop writing Kate Bishop.

(I should probably read more real books this year. Oh, well.)

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?

Actually, my cable has a bunch of music "Radio" stations and I've found one that plays nothing but 90s stuff. That has been my favorite, because oh hai there, nostalgia.

Your favorite tv show of the year?

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

Finding out that Sam isn't going to play a significant role in the otherwise excellent Post-Brubaker Captain America series. I'm glad that this writer is giving women agency and personalities in a way that Brubaker failed at, but taking Sam away from the supporting cast is a dick move.

Alternately, the huge disappointment that is Hickman's New Avengers. All cocks, all the time. Get out with that shit, Marvel.

Your fandom boyfriend of the year?

Steve Rogers forever and ever. Though I may have been cheating on him with Sam a lot.

(Sam/Steve/Me: OT3 to end all OT3s.)

Your fandom girlfriend of the year?

Joan Watson.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Sarah Rogers telling Steve that he always needs to get back up.

The most missed of your old fandoms?

I miss writing Trek fic! Sometimes I miss writing DC fic, but tumblr reminds me every day that DC fandom stared too long into the abyss.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

I want to write Elementary fic, but I'm terrified (NEW SHINY JOY SQUEE HOW DO I LIVE UP TO IT???)

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?

Iron Man! Star Trek! Thor! A good year to be a geek!
zarabithia: (avatar: ot3)

So,[community profile] 3_ships stories are up!

So many threesomes/moresomes in many fandoms.

Go forth, read and comment! :)

zarabithia: (steve: movie verse)
End of the Year Fic Masterlist )

Total Word Count: 106,635 words.

Your main fandom of the year? Marvel, by a large margin. Especially if you include the Avengers Movie Verse into the pile. It will probably continue to be a large fandom in the future, despite Marvel's Current EPIC BULLSHIT.

Your favorite film you watched this year? Captain America: The First Avenger! I loved EVERY PERSON IN THAT MOVIE. Even Howard.

Your favorite book read this year?: cero_ate sent me a bunch of silly books to read (uh, about two years ago. I WILL SEND THEM BACK TO YOU SOON CERO) and one of them that I read this year was a fluffy romance novel by the name of "The McKettrick Way," which is ridiculous in the way that all romance novels are, but the woman was pretty great, and I enjoy fluffy romance novels now and then.

Your favorite tv show of the year? It's a tie between Once Upon a Time and Young Justice. Both are great shows and full of kickass women. YJ has some great men, too.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Once Upon a Time! :) People, watch this show. Seriously.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?: Hmm. People's continual slut-shaming of Kori and Selina and bashing of any Batgirl that isn't THEIR Batgirl has to go into this category. Pro-tip: If you are relying on sexist attitudes and terminology for your "Social Justice," You are Doing It Wrong.

Your fiction boyfriend of the year?: Quite possibly Barry Allen. Did I mention that his book is fucking perfect?

Your fiction girlfriend of the year?: PROBABLY Peggy Carter. But Kate Kane is a CLOSE second.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?: Probably the DC Reboot. All the TERRIBLE OLD CANON IS GONE. And it's been replaced with very good things.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year? Winter Soldier #1. Brubaker's Captain America is not doing it for me anymore, but I HAVE GREAT FAITH that this will be awesome.  I also anticipate that Whedon will come up with at least 101 ways to fuck up the Avengers, but that's probably not what the question is referring to.

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?: Far less! Life's been good on the freelancing front, so I have been too busy to write. Plus, I've been RPing a lot, and that cuts into writing time.

Where did you publish/archive your stories?: LJ and AO3, mostly.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January: LOL, DEFINITELY WALLY/BARRY. I don't even know what's going on there. But "Sacred" and its terribleness is also something I never would predicted.

What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest. Probably "Letters Never Sent (The Girls, Girls, Girls Remix)." I loved that story a lot. It was so much fun to write and so liberating to build a story for Maria that the movies will never bother to give her (Because hey, giving her a face was too hard.)

Okay, NOW your most popular story. "Sacred." Far and away. The anon comments were ridiculously kind and overwhelming, and it's done well on AO3, too. People really liked that crazy story.

Story most under appreciated by the universe? Eh, I wrote mostly small fandoms so I don't really expect a large turnout.

Story that could have been better?: Probably all of them! But I am happy with the content I produced in 2011.

Sexiest story?: I'm not sure? Probably "Something As Simple As a Scratch."

Most fun story?: "Impersonating Responsible Adults." Neal and Faith in the same story! Fun times.

Story with single sweetest moment?: I think Kate and Cassie celebrating their honeymoon in "Done Well and Adequately" is probably the sweetest. Fuck you and all your bullshit, Marvel.

The story that made you cry?: Oh, God. "A Harsh Breath." Tore me up.

Hardest story to write?: I rewrote my recipient's Yuletide story three times! LOL, so "The Scientific Method" kicked my ass. I was also uncertain about "Letters Never Sent (The Girls, Girls, Girls Remix) because as fun as Remix is, I'm never certain how much change is TOO much change, according to the rules.

Easiest story to write? "Selina Kyle, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.," probably. It was just a fun, crack crossover.

Most overdue story? HAHA, all of my texts from last night stories. Also, tacoma_trauma, I will be finishing your Invaders Orgy story SOON.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? This year I wrote f/m kink, with a dominant male. This is really triggering for me when I'm reading it, and I wasn't so sure I could write it. But I gave it a shot, it turned out okay, and I didn't have any mental trauma because of it. In fact, it turned out as one of my favorite stories of the year. So. Huge personal chance, but I'm glad I took it.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year? Finish the Big Bangs on my plate! Write some Once Upon a Time fic. Finish those damn Texts from Last Night posts. Come up with a new lj name, because I still hate "pervyficgirl." LOL.

Have as much fun in fandom as I did this year, which was a lot!

Happy Day After Yuletide Opening/Early New Years!

So I was spoiled for Yuletide and received two very wonderful presents:

Christmastime in the City (596 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Captain America (2011)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
Characters: James "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers
Summary: Bucky and Steve on the streets of New York, Christmas 1940.

STEVE. BUCKY. STEVE/BUCKY. The way the writer captured the feel of the period and the special push/pull of Steve/Bucky in the movie verse is perfect. It's such a warm, fun story and I adore it to pieces.

Welcome Home (1264 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Young Avengers
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kate Bishop/Cassie Lang
Characters: Scott Lang, Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, Clint Barton
Summary: In the aftermath of Scott's return, he and Cassie deal with the fallout. With a little help from their friends.

SOMEONE WHO ISN'T ME WROTE SCOTT FIC. :) :) :) AND CASSIE FIC. And it's a Yuletide Fic without a hint of Billy/Teddy! (I am beginning to think the predictions are true and that the world is going to end in 2012. :) ) But in seriousness, the voices in this fic make me happy. Scott is his lovable dork self, Clint is going to help you out even if it gets himself arrested, Kate is a wonderful anchor to the people she loves and Cassie continues to do the struggling to grow up that makes her a delight to read about. I <3 everyone in this story, as I should in a well-written Avengers story.

Annual Yuletide Game time:

I wrote 5 stories for Yuletide this year. If you can guess them, you win a ficlet/drabble of your choice. I would say that two of them are obviously mine, two of them less so, and one I doubt anyone will guess.

Comments are screened in case you want to guess!

A. HI, FLIST! My Yuletide fic is going to be finished by Wednesday-ish, and I am going to need a beta. I can't reveal the fandom (you can PM me if you need to know before signing on to beta) but will reveal it is m/m slash. It's PG-13 and doesn't have any real kinks or triggers.

Comment or PM me if you are up for beta duties?

Things that are happy making:

  • My yuletide assignment is awesome. Seriously, I got a fandom I love, a recipient who loves the same things I do, and pairings that I can write. All is awesome.  :)

  • There are so MANY treats I want to write from this post. My first priority is my original recipient, of course, but after that, if I have time, I plan to go to town on that list. So many fantastic fandoms and pairings that I adore. (FYI, flist, you don't have to be a participant in Yuletide to write treats! All you need is an AO3 account.)

  • The flu that I've had for two weeks is down to just a runny nose and earache. I will be able to eat on Thanksgiving! Horray. (Southern mama cooking - nothing better. Well, except for those nasty sweet potatoes.)

  • I got an early birthday cake, made entirely of brownies. :) Tasty. Actual "Cake" will be blueberry pie, which is my favorite.

  • I remain delighted that Young Justice fandom adores Barry Allen so much. It's so refreshing from the silly hate that comics fandom gives him. Speaking of, you should totally be reading Flash, if you aren't, because it, along with Batwoman, are perfect. Flash fact.

  • Speaking of perfect, I have a new fandom! Once Upon a Time is full of strong women being wonderful. There is room for het and femslash couplings galore (you might be able to squeeze a slash couple out of it, somehow. The princes seemed pretty close, tbh.) Moreover, the women are different from each other. Will be writing fic for it, asap.

Five least satisfying conclusions (end of a tv series, movie, book - any media.) I'll be fair and just go with endings that were unsatisfying and not endings that caused me endless amounts of RAGE.

Also, I've been looking at old [community profile] fannish5 and have decided to go back and answer some of them. We'll start at the very beginning! From 8/15/2003: (apparently, they had a different format back then! Five questions for each day, which is weird!)

Question #1: What are your top five LEAST favorite television characters? )

Question #2: Who are the best Superheros? )

Question #3: What are the five slashiest movies (it doesn't matter if the film is any good or not)? )

Question #4: What are your favorite pairings (slash, het or multiples, doesn't matter)? )

Question #5: Who are your favorite character actor/actresses? )

As seen on my tumblr: A cautionary tale about why you should never draw lines in the sand about what you will or won’t read/write in fandom, taken from my fannish life:

Me, 2005: “You know, Dick/Superman is cute, and I’ll go for that, but I am never, ever going to be sick enough to write sidekick/mentors. What’s wrong with the Batman/Robin people?”*

Me, 2006: “Eh, maybe I understand where the Jason/Bruce subtext is coming from. But Dick/Bruce is still fucked up. ALL mentor/sidekicks are gross.”

Me, 2007: “HELLO, CAPTAIN AMERICA. HELLO, BUCKY BARNES. HELLO, OBVIOUS SUBTEXT. BUT, IT’S OKAY, BECAUSE BUCKY IS 16, AND TOTALLY A BADASS ASSASSIN! How can I not ship this? Why do more people not ship this? I'm not really in Marvel fandom, but I think I'm going to write some of this pairing...”

Me, 2008: “Oh, alright. I’ll write some Bruce/Dick for my flist. Still not really my thing, but I could come up with a plot or two…”

Me, 2009: “Clint Barton/Kate Bishop? I…could really, really go for that. Age differences? Pft. She’s old enough to know what she wants…right? Agency FTW!”

Me, later 2009: "The only thing that beats Clint/Kate is Clint/Kate/Bucky."

Me, 2010: “Erm. I wonder how many of the Young Avengers I can pair up with the “adult” Avengers? Also, I wonder if anyone will fill this Clint Barton/Billy Kaplan prompt on the kink meme if I leave it?" (hint: they did, and it was awesome.)

Me, 2011: “Look! Unlike comics fandom, YJ fandom is actually being nice towards Barry! And writing fic with him in it! And … oh. Barry/Wally? Huh. Well, that’s not too terrible, I guess I could kind of see it … oh. Was that a Barry/Wally fic I just wrote? :/ Here, let me waste the rest of today making sure I have all the Barry/Wally fics saved on my delicious...”

It’s like the opposite of personal growth, where you become more seedy over time. Shame? I have none. For the record, I am totally sorry I judged you, Bruce/Dick people. My house: it is currently made of glass.

At the end of the day, I still blame Steve and Bucky, though.

(*Yes, I was a judgmental asshole in my early days. While I'm still a judgmental asshole, I try to be judgey over more important things these days. :D I am not always successful.)

[community profile] 3_ships is live!  There are threesomes in 51 stories in 34 different fandoms, so you should definitely be able to find some awesome threesome fic. :)

I received  A Love Story in Reverse (Jessica Jones/Luke Cage/Scott Lang), which is the Jessica/Luke/someone else threesome I always wanted to exist. This fic is pretty much perfect and nails the characters' voices. All of them are a bit messed up, but they are trying so hard and you can see them struggling to make this completely imperfect and improbable threesome work despite the odds and the world being against them.

There's banter! And issues! And happy.

Luke chuckled. "Not really. I guess those rumors about you and Stark are true, huh?"

Scott's mouth dropped open. "How did you hear about that?" he demanded.

Jessica spun around to face him. "Wait, what?" she blurted out, staring at Luke. Then she realized what Scott had said, and she turned her head back toward him. "Since when have you slept with Tony Stark?"

Scott crossed his arms defensively. "Name three people who haven't slept with Tony Stark."

"Me," Luke said instantly, though he was grinning.

"And me," Jessica said, crossing her own arms in mirror of Luke's.

Scott waited a few seconds before clearing his throat. "That's only two."

I adore this fic, and think it should be read by everyone with even a passing knowledge of the characters. :)

Senate votes to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

"It is time to close this chapter in our history," Obama said in a statement after a test vote cleared the way for final action. "It is time to recognize that sacrifice, valor and integrity are no more defined by sexual orientation than they are by race or gender, religion or creed."

"This has been a long fought battle, but this failed and discriminatory law will now be history," said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign.

So, tonight was the premier of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! on Disney XD. To get prepared, I watched all the little micro episodes they also played all day, leading up to the double episode premier. The micro episodes basically established the background canon of the toon's verse, and introduced the characters.

Eee! How awesome is this show? I loved that they picked and chose bits from the movies, from the 616 and from the Ultimates and mixed it all together. I was afraid they'd go overboard with the Ultimates - because I hate the Ultimates with all that is holy and good. But I think it was a pretty good balance.

Things I loved (Spoilers, obviously):

So the short version: awesome! And you should watch! Including you DC fen. It's a brand new canon! You don't have a lot to get caught up on. And it includes no dead cats so far. :)
